By the railroads often are transported large consignments of oversized cargo: timber, ore, coal, etc. But this type of transportation is also useful for small volumes, since it is possible to consolidate them into one consignment.
Railway transportation
is the transportation of goods and passengers by land transport on rail tracks.
The cost of railway transportation
The calculation of the railway tariff is based on several indices:
• Characteristics of the cargo;
• Distance and route;
• Type of wagons used (prices for grain carriers, gondola wagons, refrigerator- wagons differ);
• ставка Rate for the services of railway companies.
Do not forget about the additional services necessary for the transportation of cargoes. The price of railway delivery is affected by the cost of loading operations, paperwork and other services to accompany the order. Also, the price of transportation may vary depending on the season.
Types of cargo that allow you to transport them by railway:
Bulk cargo - cargo consisting of a large number of homogeneous pieces, grains, particles. They are characterized by flowability, which determines the requirements for hermetically sealing of the containers to prevent spillage. The most popular cargo of this type is grain transported in specialized wagons.
Loose cargo - cargo that does not have the property of flowability and are heterogeneous in fractional composition: This makes it possible to do without tare, without counting places or pieces in whole wagons. Loose cargoes are firewood, coal, ore, bricks.Liquid cargo - liquid cargo transported in cisterns, tank-containers, bunker gondola cars. They differ in their main properties: viscosity, solidification upon cooling, flammability, aggressiveness towards metal, etc. Solidification leads to the need to heat up some types of liquid cargo before filling and draining.
Dangerous goods- substances and materials that can harm the environment, cause explosions, fires and damage to vehicles, buildings and structures, as well as death of people and animals. Spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from nuclear power plants is classified as especially dangerous cargo. Wagons for SNF transportation are extremely durable and can withstand the loads that can occur during the most severe railway accidents.
Easily combustible goods - cotton wool, soot, sulfur, hay, etc. - everything that burns easily. They require the strictest compliance with fire safety standards. Transportation of this type of cargo in hermetically unsealed wagons and containers is prohibited. Wagons are prepared with special care for the transportation of cotton fiber, cotton wool, clothes, and textile products.
Freezable cargo - cargo (ore, coal, coke, sand, fluxes, etc.), individual pieces of which freeze together at low temperatures and freeze to the floor and walls of the wagon. To prevent freezing and facilitate unloading, these cargoes are sometimes supplemented with substances that absorb moisture (for example, quicklime), as well as substances that form solutions with a low freezing point when combined with water (salt, calcium chloride). Frozen coal is a problem for thermal power plants, where unloading wagons in the winter requires huge labor costs.
Heavy-weight cargoes - are cargoes, the mass of which exceeds the values allowed by the Technical Conditions (TC) for loading and securing cargoes. Transportation of heavy-weight cargo is carried out mainly with the help of conveyors. The conveyor is a kind of rolling stock with a carrying capacity of up to 500 tons. Conveyors are part of a special fleet of Russian Railways.
Perishable goods - are goods that require protection from exposure to high or low temperatures, light during transportation, require special maintenance during transportation (cooling, heating, ventilation). Containers used for the perishable goods (barrels, cans, boxes, etc.) must be clean, serviceable, and reliably ensuring the safety of cargo. For goods that require constant access of air, the container must have gaps, for frozen products it must be tight. Each cargo package is marked.
Quarantine cargoes -are cargoes that are potentially susceptible to infection by pests, plant pathogens and weeds. These include seeds and planting material, vegetables, coffee beans, raw tobacco, raw sugar, wood, etc.
Types of wagons that are used for rail transportation:
- Closed;
- Platforms;
- Specialized;
- Cisterns;
- Isothermal;
- Conveyors;
Railway waybill
a contract of shipment concluded in writing between the railway and the cargo shipper (cargo receiver), which accompanies the cargo along its entire route and contains data on the cargo.
A railway freight manifest
is a generalized data on the goods transported the mean of transportation, together with the information about the mean of transportation itself, such as the identification, characteristics, and route of that mean of transportation.
The information about the cargo you need to provide in order to carry out the transportation:
You must provide a packing list, volume, weight and dimensions of the cargo, conditions of transportation, information about the sender and recipient.
General cargo
is any piece cargo with or without packaging that can be transported by vehicles without organizing special conditions for loading, unloading and transportation itself.
Dangerous goods or hazardous materials
is a cargo that can cause harm to the health or life of people and / or the environment, as well as the vehicle by which it is being transported. Dangerous goods are a category of goods that are either prohibited for transportation or certain restrictions are established for their transportation due to the observance of security measures. These goods require the completion of special documentation and special packaging during their transportation.
Perishable goods
Perishable goods are those goods that, under normal conditions, i.e. without proper cooling and maintenance of optimal temperatures and humidity, are easily spoiled and therefore require special conditions for transportation.
Cargo shipper
a natural or legal person who, under a contract for the transportation of goods, acts on his own behalf or on behalf of the owner of the goods and is indicated in the bill of lading.
Cargo receiver
a person to whom, at the direction of the Cargo shipper, the goods should be issued at the destination point. Not being a party to the contract of shipment, he/she acquires certain rights and bears obligations stipulated by the contract concluded by the Cargo shipper with the carrier.
Cargo dimensions-
these are the length, height and width, and weight of the cargo. There are standard-sized and oversized cargo.
Standard-sized cargo
is a cargo dimensions of which do not exceed the dimensions allowed for transportation and the norms established by the rules of the traffic. In other words, the standard-sized dimension is the size of the cargo that can be placed in a standard vehicle.
Oversized cargo
is a cargo dimensions of which exceed the dimensions allowed for transportation and the norms established by the rules of the traffic. In other words, oversized dimension is the size of the cargo that cannot be placed in a standard vehicle.
Net weight
the weight of the goods without tare and packaging.
Gross weight
the weight of the goods, including tare and packaging.
Is packaging necessary for cargo?
Yes, your cargo needs to be packed and/or palletized, which is the responsibility of the cargo shipper.
The volumetric weight of the shipped item (overall weight)- is a calculated value that reflects the density of the cargo. Typically, a less dense item occupies more space than a denser item of the same weight. The volumetric weight is calculated and compared with the actual mass of the shipped item to determine which of the values is larger. The larger value is used to calculate the shipping cost.
Consolidation of goods
is a process of sorting and accumulation of goods in a warehouse, collection and formation of goods sent by the same route.
ETD
Estimated time of transport departure.
ETA
Estimated time of transport arrival.
Payment Process
After each shipment, our company will send an invoice, according to which you will pay the corresponding amount to the account number indicated in the invoice, and then send us a payment order.
